Saturday March 14th
11:30am - 2:00 pm
Gibson Public Library
A talk and handing out seeds and seedlings for the peas+love project. There are 2 pea seeds The Gibsons and Sechelt Seed Sharing Libraries are saving in 2026, Pea Parsley and Sweet Magnolia Pea, and they are both snap peas.
Parsley Peas are different from other peas as they produce tender and delicious edible leaves that look like parsley but taste like peas. These semi trailing plants produce snap peas within 30 days after emerging from the soil. They grow well in containers and harvest peas when 8-12 inches(20-30cm) tall. Tendrils can be added to salads, sandwiches, or stir fried. We are looking to add this to the seed libraries collection as it is so versatile, easy to grow for food security.
Sweet Magnolia Peas are sturdy 5-8 foot(150-240 cm) plants that need a lot of support. They are ready to eat after 70 days from emerging from the soil and are very productive and yield sweet snap peas for weeks. Their tendrils can also be eaten. If you have a tall trellis these peas are absolutely delicious. The seed the libraries are using has been harvested on the coast. We are looking forward to having more of this seed available for the seed libraries.
Prize to be announced for the project at a later date. The Prize for the Seed Saving Lettuce Project in 2025 was a 'couples massage' donated by Sol-spa and The Sunshine Coast Seed Saving Collective.

The Seed Exchange at Seedy Saturday is hosted by the Sunshine Coast Seed Saving Collective. A grass-roots way to give and get seeds that grow food, medicine and pollinator plants. There is no money exchange..only seeds. Bring your dry, packaged seeds in labelled envelopes with the seed name, variety, year harvested, quantity and drop off to share with others, swap , or just bring a cash donation to pick up if you don't have seeds to exchange.
There will also be seedlings and seeds to sign out for the peas+love seed saving project.
